A COMMON LEARNING EXPERIENCE ACROSS CULTURES
Blanchard operates on six continents and supports more than a dozen languages. Our consulting and coaching resources are located close to customers and are highly familiar with the cultural context in which they work. Most multinational clients source Blanchard to establish one common language of leadership across diverse cultural and business contexts. Here’s one example of how Blanchard works with multinational clients.
Inside a Multinational Learning Experience
A global telecommunications corporation was expanding rapidly in 21 countries with offices on three continents. Employee turnover had increased as performance decreased, and the organization was not able to run at optimum efficiency.
Their challenge was to develop executive leaders at the local level who could manage growth into the future.
Blanchard collaborated with General Managers, the Vice President of Human Resources, and the Organizational Development team to define key elements of an executive level leadership curriculum that would connect training to business results.
Blanchard took into consideration the different cultures of the participants being served, throughout Africa and the Middle East, when developing materials and introducing case studies to local and regional facilitators.
Participants worked on a structured action plan during a two-day Leading People Through Change program. The programs focus was to practice real-work change scenarios in the classroom, as learning activities.
Participants divided into small groups sessions and then followed up with either peer coaching within their group, or meeting with their coach to practice key skills and reinforce the principles they had learned.
This client used the Situational Leadership II model as the foundation to develop three focus areas: Leading Self, Leading One-on-One, and Leading Teams. They also used a follow-up coaching program that aligned with the company’s objectives.
A core team of Blanchard leadership experts trained locals to facilitate the sessions in some countries, and tapped regional facilitators from Blanchard's global partner network to cover training in other areas.
After testing and tweaking the plan in three countries, it was launched virtually using multiple methods that included e-learning and goals simulation along with pre-training assessments and pre- and post- workshop assignments.
In Session 1, executives identified real challenges they were experiencing in their daily jobs.
Before Session 2, they were asked to complete an assignment related to that issue. A coaching session followed.
In this way, executives were able to work on relevant issues with practical application and benefit from targeted coaching sessions.
When working with customers around the world, we learn as much as we teach. They introduce us to new cultures in ways that expand our view.
We incorporate many of their ideas into our framework and processes, which influence our work with other multinational companies.
It’s very important, to us, to adapt programs that fit the culture of the company as well as the locale. Collabortaing, with our multinational clients, helps us become better designers and better trainers.
At the end of the first year, we met with the client to review employee surveys, analyze evaluations, study trends we observed, and determine what modifications should be made to keep pace with their changing business environment.
Following Blanchard training, the company engaged a third party evaluation of the organization, which found a significant improvement in the area of leadership based on employee feedback. An ROI study related to the project is now underway.
Today, the company is creating a new business model with additional technological capabilities and revamping its back office operations. We will be working closely with them to deliver both learning solutions and change consulting services.
We enjoy long-term relationships with many of our customers as they re-invent themselves, introduce new leaders, or initiate new strategies.
With years of experience and research-based training that crosses linguistic, cultural and geographic barriers, we continue to keep pace by modifying core programs or creating new learning plans to meet new goals. We are always there to support your organization if and when you need us.
